Frequently Asked Questions
Note: There are a lot of acronyms floating around on this site – NKT, FMS, SFMA, ART, IASTM, RRT, etc. Before you throw up your hands and go “WTH?”, feel free to click through to the Resources page that describes all of these techniques in detail.
Standard 30 minute appointments are $75 and include whatever treatments you need on that day (chiropractic manipulation, NKT, IASTM, RRT, ART, heat, ice, exercise instruction). We charge the same flat fee for each visit, so there are no surprises. A flat fee allows us to use whatever treatments are best for you on that day, without your having to worry about extra fees for additional services. Everything is up-front, and you know exactly what you are getting and how much it will cost.
There are two options for your initial visit. If you just have one primary issue then a 60 minute new patient visit should be perfect ($155).
If you have multiple issues, and need more time to give a full history, then we recommend the 90 minute new patient visit ($195).
During this appointment we will take a complete history and perform orthopedic tests. Neurological exams and movement assessments will also be performed when indicated.
If the working diagnosis falls under the scope of chiropractic care, then treatment will begin on the first visit.
For your convenience, we accept: check, cash, Visa, Amex, MasterCard and Discover. We also take HSA (Health Savings Account) cards.
Note: The state of New Mexico charges a gross receipts tax on services and this is not included in the flat fee. Supplies, such as rolls of kinesiology tape, resistance bands, or supplements would also be billed additionally.
We sure do!
HSA cards are an excellent way to get the health care that you need from the provider of your choice. It runs through just like a regular credit/debit card.
We feel that frequency and type of care should be determined by the patient and the doctor, not a third party. By charging a reasonable, all-inclusive flat fee we are able to perform whatever treatments work best for you on each visit.
In this way, we can provide you with the treatments you need, not just the treatments covered by your particular health insurance.
This also saves unpleasant surprises later, when, after several treatments, insurance companies may refuse to pay for services already rendered, and you get an unexpectedly large bill.
As an example, many insurers will only pay for an adjustment, not rehab exercises or soft-tissue work. You would then be responsible for the rest of the bill. (This is in addition to the co-pay!) Or, some insurers will only cover care after you have reached your (usually large) deductible, and until that time you will be paying full price for services.
Confused yet? Me too, that's why we keep it simple with a single flat fee based on time that includes whatever you need on that visit.
Think of it as a “co-pay” that covers everything.
Yes! Even after what seems like a minor fender-bender it is a good idea to get some treatment. Sometimes it may take a couple of weeks (or even months) for symptoms to show up. So, book your appointment as soon as you can after the accident. For car accident cases it’s best to call rather than book online, as we will have some extra questions for you, and we want to make sure that we can get you treated as soon as possible. (505-948-3773).
Payment for car accidents is a little different than our standard flat fee. If you have Med Pay we can bill that directly. If the other party was at fault then we can often accept a Letter of Protection from your attorney so that you don’t have any up-front expenses. Definitely call us to discuss your options, as they do vary case by case. (505-948-3773).
Dealing with a car accident is a stressful time, but we will do our best to help you with a speedy recovery.
No. At Blue Sky Chiropractic we love our patients, but we want you to get better and back out to doing the things you enjoy as soon as possible.
You are not alone. Many people are apprehensive about chiropractic manipulation for the first time (and sometimes even when it’s not the first time).
At Blue Sky Chiropractic we believe that there are few things as powerful as a precise chiropractic adjustment. To make this possible we have many techniques to deliver an adjustment in a manner that is comfortable for you. We use traditional hands-on methods, as well as a hand-held instrument that can be dialed in to the gentlest of settings. The important thing is that you, the patient, will be encouraged to discuss what options you find most comfortable.
Initial appointments are either 60 or 90 minutes (depending on which you select when booking), and standard follow up appointments are usually 25 minutes. Double follow up visits are available as well, and those run about 55 minutes.
Yes. An important part of the initial evaluation is making sure that something that seems simple is indeed simple. We believe in performing a comprehensive history and exam on all patients.
The American Chiropractic Association sums it up the best:
Doctors of chiropractic are educated as primary-contact health care providers, with an emphasis on diagnosis and treatment of conditions related to the musculoskeletal system (the muscles, ligaments and joints of the spine and extremities) and the nerves that supply them. Educational requirements for doctors of chiropractic are among the most stringent of any of the health care professions.
The typical applicant for chiropractic college has already acquired nearly four years of pre-medical undergraduate college education, including courses in biology, inorganic and organic chemistry, physics, psychology and related lab work. Once accepted into an accredited chiropractic college, the requirements become even more demanding — four to five academic years of professional study are the standard. Doctors of chiropractic are educated in orthopedics, neurology, physiology, human anatomy, clinical diagnosis including laboratory procedures, diagnostic imaging, exercise, nutrition, rehabilitation and more.
Because chiropractic care includes highly skilled manipulation/adjusting techniques, a significant portion of time is spent in clinical technique training to master these important manipulative procedures.
In total, the chiropractic college curriculum includes a minimum of 4,200 hours of classroom, laboratory and clinical experience. The course of study is approved by an accrediting agency that is fully recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
